(Mostly) Spring Favourites

1 Apr

These are some of my favourite polish colours for spring and summer of 2012.

From left to right: Sally Hansen Insta-Dry “Whirlwind White”, “Pink Blink”, and “Fuchsia Flare”. Essie “Little Brown Dress”, “Sand Tropez”, “Play Date”, “St. Lucia Lilac”. Essie Luxeffects Topcoat “Shine of The Times”. Revlon “Extra Life No Chip Top Coat”.

Little Brown Dress is a bit too dark for spring, but it works well for an accent nail!

This is a swatch of Essie “St. Lucia Liliac”, which I painted on my mom’s nails earlier today. It is definitely one of my favourite Essie colours of all time! Perfect for spring. This is two coats of St. Lucia and one coat of the Relvon Top Coat.

This is a swatch of Essie “Sand Tropez” which I have on my nails right now. I have searched high and low for a beachy, nude nail colour for spring, and I think I hit the jackpot with this one! It’s the perfect mixture of grey and brown. It looks exactly like sand! This is two coats of Sand Tropez and one coat of Revlon Top Coat.

Here are some of the colours up close so you guys can see their beauty for yourselves!

Sally Hansen Insta-Dry in “Whirlwind White”.

Essie in “Little Brown Dress”.

Essie in “Sand Tropez”.

Essie in “St. Lucia Lilac”.

Essie in “Play Date”.

Essie Luxeffects in “Shine of The Times”.
This is such a beautiful slightly holographic glitter that I had to add more than one picture! 🙂

And last, but not least, my favourite top coat of all time! Revlon “Extra Life No Chip Top Coat”. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. There is NOTHING like this top coat! It makes my nails hard as rock and you can sleep on it without worrying if your nails will have ‘pillow prints’ on them the next morning! Fabulous stuff!

That’s it for today.

Have a lovely day, my dears!

When in France…

31 Mar

I’m not actually in France, and this manicure isn’t actually what I have on my nails right now.

However, a few months ago, I gave myself a french manicure, took pictures, and forgot all about them. So, you lucky readers get to see them now! Voila!

For the white tips, I used two coats of Sally Hansen Insta-Dry in ‘Whirlwind White’, as well as nail stickers to keep the line nice and straight. You can buy french nail stickers at any drugstore (I got mine from Shoppers Drug Mart). I don’t remember what kind they were, but if you ask the person working in the cosmetics department, they will be able to direct you to some ample choices for stickers. I painted one coat of Rimmel Lycra+Minerals in ‘442 French Rose’ overtop. This colour is a sheer light pink and is perfect for softening the hard white line. After that, I put one coat of Revlon ‘Extra Life No Chip Top Coat’ on and there you have it!

I just have to say that the Revlon top coat is one of the best I’ve ever used in my life! It makes my nail polish as hard as ROCK! I would recommend it to anyone, anytime, anywhere!

Pretty In Pink!

25 Mar

The other day I was looking an manicures online and saw a lot of ombre nails floating around. But, since I don’t have five similar (but different in shade) pink polishes, I decided to do a makeshift ombre manicure. I hope you like!

The two colours I used were Sally Hansen Insta Dry, of which the darker is called Fuchsia Flare and the lighter was Pink Blink. What I did was paint the three inner nails on each of my hands the darker pink, and the last two (ring and pinky fingers) the lighter pink. Lots of people thought this was a cool idea!

Also, my birthday was the other day (March 20th). My mom made this beautiful cake for me!!!!! Isn’t it lovely?

Alright guys, school is looking to be a bit crazy for me this week, so I may not post for a while. But I hope you enjoyed this one!

Love y’all!

New Recruit!

12 Mar

Hello, my dears!

I would just like to let everyone know that my cousin has now decided to join me in blogging!
Her name is Jodi and she loooves nail polish just as much as (if not more than) I do!
So, please give a warm welcome to the newest member of my team!

Hope you are all having a lovely Monday. More swatches to come soon!

Here’s what my nails look like right now (I apologize for the fuzzy picture)! This is “Gilty Pleasure” by Sally Hansen. It’s a beautiful colour and it looks minxed in the sun! One coat is enough, but I did two here. 🙂

It’s Almost My Birthday!

11 Mar

I am turning 21 in exactly 9 days! Too bad I don’t live in the United States, then it would probably be a bigger deal.

Here are some old swatches I’ve done in the past that I’ve actually had time to take pictures of, as well as some nail polishes I bought.

This was done at a friend’s house and I’ve completely forgotten the names of the colours. I know for sure that they were both Sally Hansen InstaDry nail polishes though. I had this wild idea to paint my nails entirely one colour, put a piece of scotch tape over them diagonally, and paint another colour overtop. This is how it turned out! I got complements on my nails every day after wearing it out!

These are three China Glaze polishes I bought at Sally’s one day after I first heard of shatter/crackle nail polish. I was sooo excited to try them out. They do work really well, but I’m not as big a fan of the crackle as I thought I would be. From left to right we have China Glaze Crackle Glaze in “Tarnished Gold”, China Glaze Crackle Glaze in “Crushed Candy”, and the last one is just a regular black polish, also China Glaze.

After Christmas (whence I had been given a Sephora giftcard) I decided to go to Sephora and buy the one and only thing I will never get tired of; nail polish. These two are both beautiful colours. The first is a medium cool grey called Sephora by OPI, “Frankly, I Don’t Give A-dam”. The second is a red jelly-based, bright crimson and silver sparkle polish called Sephora by OPI, “What’s Your Poison?”. In order to get a good coverage in the red, it does require at least two coats, preferably three.

This is what “What’s Your Poison?” looks like in natural sunlight:
